Economy & LIX
LIX is the platform currency in HELIX — think of it like Robux or V-Bucks. Players purchase LIX with real money and spend it across worlds on cosmetics, game passes, power-ups, or anything else creators offer. As a creator, LIX is how you earn revenue from your experiences.
How LIX Works
Players buy LIX through the HELIX website. Once they have a balance, they can spend it across the platform. The flow looks like this:
- Player buys LIX with real currency through the HELIX website
- Player spends LIX on in-world purchases, Vault packages, collectibles, or platform services
- Creator earns LIX from those purchases (as "Earned LIX")
- Creator cashes out by converting Earned LIX to real currency through the payout system
LIX is also used by creators for platform services like Instant Hosting.
HELIX separates Purchased LIX (bought with real money, can be spent but not cashed out) from Earned LIX (gained through creator activity, eligible for payout). This prevents abuse and keeps the economy stable.
Setting Up Monetization
To sell things in your world, you create packages in the HELIX Creator Dashboard. Each package has a name, description, LIX price, and a callback that fires when a player completes the purchase.
Common package types include:
- Cosmetics — character skins, vehicle wraps, emotes
- Game passes — VIP access, special abilities, extra inventory slots
- Consumables — in-game currency boosts, XP multipliers, health packs
- Subscriptions — recurring access to premium features
Pricing Your Packages
When setting prices, keep your audience in mind. Here are some general guidelines:
| Package Type | Suggested LIX Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Small consumable | 10-50 LIX | Low friction, high volume |
| Cosmetic item | 50-200 LIX | Players pay more for visual flair |
| Game pass | 200-1,000 LIX | One-time unlock with lasting value |
| Premium bundle | 1,000-5,000 LIX | Multiple items at a discount |
These are suggestions, not rules. Experiment and see what works for your community.
Creator Payouts
HELIX takes a platform fee from each transaction and passes the rest to you. Payouts are processed on a regular schedule, and you can track your earnings, transaction history, and pending payouts in the Creator Dashboard.
To be eligible for payouts, you need to:
- Complete identity verification in your creator profile
- Reach the minimum payout threshold
- Have a connected payment method (bank account or PayPal)
In-World Economy
Beyond LIX, many creators build secondary economies inside their worlds using the database system. You can create in-game currencies (gold, credits, tokens) that players earn through gameplay and spend at NPC shops or player-to-player trades. These economies run entirely on your server and don't involve real money, giving you full creative control.
A healthy in-world economy has both sinks (ways to spend currency) and faucets (ways to earn it). Without balance, prices inflate and the economy feels broken. Plan your earning rates and item costs carefully.
